In Memoriam: Aleck Trawick, Q.C.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of Aleck Trawick on November 20, 2010.
Among his many contributions and accomplishments – within and outside of CMHA – were:
- Introduced to the mental health system in 1970 and involved from there on in
- Provided 23 years of continuous volunteer service to CMHA at Alberta Division and National levels (1982 to 2005)
- Former CMHA Alberta Division President and Honourary Solicitor
- Former President of CMHA Calgary Region
- Twice recipient of the CMHA Alberta Division President’s Award (1979, and 1997/1998)
- Former CMHA National Vice President
- Former Provincial Ombudsman for Alberta (1987 – 1989)
- Recipient of the Commemorative Medal of Canada (1993)
- Recipient of the CMHA National C.M. Hincks award (1994)
- The CMHA National Aleck Trawick, QC Award, initiated in 2000, was named in his honour, to commemorate his “exemplary legal advocacy and his ongoing commitment to social justice”
- Former Chairman of the Board of William Roper Hull Child and Family Services
He was truly a champion for those with mental illness.
