Mental Health Week 2025
May 1, 2025
Unmasking Mental Health
The 74th annual Mental Health Week is here! From May 5-11, CMHA is “Unmasking Mental Health” to break down barriers, challenge stigma and support open conversations. Help us spread the word by using hashtags #UnmaskingMentalHealth and #MentalHealthWeek.
Masking is when we hide or suppress emotions, personality traits, behaviours or symptoms from others. Living with a mental health or substance use challenge is hard enough; masking can make it even harder. Living with mental health challenges often forces people to hide behind a “mask” to protect themselves from judgment and discrimination.
Resources
This year we’re encouraging people across Canada to look beyond the surface and see the whole person. By embracing honesty and vulnerability, we open the door to deeper connections and the mental health benefits that come with it. Below you’ll find resources for spreading the message about how #UnmaskingMentalHealth benefits everyone.
- Fact sheet: What is masking?
- Fact sheet: What happens when we mask?
- Fact sheet: What does masking look like?
