CMHA AB + CSP Board Director posting (volunteer role)

Are you located in Alberta and interested in community mental health and suicide prevention? We are currently seeking qualified candidates to join our Board of Directors to provide strategic leadership and direction, oversight and governance to the organization.

On 1 September 2024, Canadian Mental Health Association, Alberta Division, and Centre for Suicide Prevention, amalgamated to form a new provincial organization that leads community mental health and suicide prevention in Alberta, CMHA AB + CSP.  This is an exciting time to join our Board as our organization establishes its mandate and leadership in the province. Our Board’s Nominating Committee is currently accepting applications for Board Director positions, to be elected at the Annual General Meeting, in June 2025. Prospective Directors will have a passion for, and commitment to, community mental health and suicide prevention.

What’s expected of CMHA AB + CSP Board Directors?

Time commitment

CMHA AB + CSP’s Board Directors attend and actively participate in Board meetings and Committee meetings; all Board Directors sit on at least one Committee. The Board and Committees meet at least quarterly. Some attendance at CMHA AB + CSP-hosted events or representing CMHA AB + CSP at community events is also expected.

Term

Board Directors’ terms are three years with a maximum of two terms for a total of six years.

CMHA AB + CSP is committed to a Board composed of Directors from across Alberta, with a variety of capabilities, mindsets, and identities including professional expertise in finance, legal, governance, government relations, fund development and mental health services. This year, in particular, we are prioritizing candidates with skills and expertise in the following areas:

We are looking for individuals from across Alberta, particularly with ties to smaller centres or rural Alberta. Experience working with organizations building their strategy and brand is an asset.
