When we celebrate the LGBTQ2S+ community, we make Alberta a safer, healthier place to live.
Seventy-four per cent of Canadians know someone who is LGBTQ2S+, and 40 per cent of the LGBTQ2S+ community have experienced discrimination. People who are LGBTQ2S+ are more likely to experience declining mental health because of the pandemic. As we celebrate Pride Month, let’s also protect and promote mental health.
Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. Pride Month celebrates the accomplishments of LGBTQ2S+ people and recognizes the impacts they have had on the world. We at CMHA believe that having healthy and supportive places to live, work, play and learn can protect the mental health of those in the LGBTQ2S+ community.
